Emir lauds Cote d’Ivoire President’s role for crises settlement in Africa

Upon the invitation of the President of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire Alassane Ouattara, the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani paid a working visit to the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire on December 22 - 23 of 2017. 

During the visit, the President and H H the Emir held a bilateral meeting, followed by an official talks session with their delegations, where they discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of common concern, all in a friendly atmosphere with mutual understanding.

In appreciation of the cooperation level between both countries, they reiterated the urgency of signing agreements in specific fields for the development of their countries and the well-being of their peoples.

Welcoming the cooperation level between both countries, they affirmed the dire need of signing agreements in certain fields for their countries’ development and the prosperity of their people. 

To achieve this aim, the governments of the State of Qatar and the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire signed five agreements in order to support the strategic partnership and to implements projects in the field of civil aviation, maritime transport; culture, youth and sports.

Both sides agreed on the importance of further consultations to sign, at a later stage, an agreement on regulating labor force from the Ivorian side. 

The President expressed the gratitude of his government and people to H H the Emir for the contribution to the development of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire. H H the Emir was presented with the progress achieved in the fields of economy and democracy, the fight against poverty and terrorism, national reconciliation and peace, knowing that all these values were dear to the late President Felix Houphouet-Boigny.

The two leaders confirmed their desire to promote a united and more cohesive Africa, and the importance of preparing itself to combat new forms of crime, being terrorism, cyber-crimes, sea piracy and drug trafficking.

They agreed to achieve this by calling on the international community to support the continent to eradicate these threats. 

With regards to the threats facing Africa, H H the Emir and the President urged to find comprehensive and sustainable solutions for the crises affecting the continent and delaying its development. On this matter, H H the Emir welcomed the firm role played by the President in continuing the peaceful settlement of these crises in Africa.

The State of Qatar values the stance of the government of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire which invites all parties to sit at the dialogue table with the support of the Kuwaiti mediation led by Emir of Kuwait H H Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah and his refusal to push people into political differences. 

The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has been awarded the “National Medal of Merit”, the highest medal of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire by President Alassane Ouattara, in appreciation to his valuable contribution to promoting the friendly and cooperative relations between both countries. 

At the conclusion of the visit, H H the Emir expressed his deep gratitude to the President, his government and to the Ivorian people, for their warm welcome, the sincere brotherly solidarity, generous hospitality and the great attention His Highness and the delegation have received.
