Doha, Qatar: Katara Cultural Village has announced a specialised training course for children titled “Basics of Falcon Knowledge and Transfer” as part of the activities accompanying the 10th edition of the Katara International Hunting and Falcons Exhibition (S’hail 2026).
The two-day course, scheduled for September 6 and 7, is aimed at children aged 7 to 12, according to posts shared yesterday on Katara’s social media accounts.
Sessions will run daily from 4pm to 6pm at Building 15 in Katara. Organisers said the programme combines theoretical instruction with practical application, offering youngsters an educational introduction to the traditional art of falconry.
Registration requires parents or guardians to send a copy of the child’s personal ID card via WhatsApp to 55555365. The course is supported by the Social and Sport Contribution Fund.
S’hail 2026 itself will take place from September 8 to 12 at Katara Cultural Village. Marking a decade of the exhibition, the event will feature live falcon auctions, beauty contests, heritage displays celebrating Qatar’s falconry traditions, hands-on demonstrations of hunting and outdoor equipment, and family-friendly workshops. Admission is free.
Katara described the children’s course as “a first step into the world of falconry,” aligning with the exhibition’s broader goal of transmitting cultural heritage to younger generations while fostering interest in Qatar’s rich sporting and outdoor traditions.
Falconry holds deep historical significance in Qatari and Gulf culture, recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. By introducing children to the fundamentals of handling and understanding falcons, the course aims to ensure the continuity of this heritage in an engaging and age-appropriate manner. The timing of the workshop, immediately before the main exhibition opens, allows young participants to experience the wider S’hail atmosphere, including the heritage zone and interactive activities planned for families.

The children’s falconry programme forms part of a series of preparatory and accompanying events designed to enrich the visitor experience during the exhibition period.
