Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Qatar, H E Mohamed Mafaz Mohideen, Secretary-General of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), Ali bin Hassan Al Hammadi, with other officials.
Doha: Secretary-General of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), Ali bin Hassan Al Hammadi met yesterday with Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Qatar H E Mohamed Mafaz Mohideen.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Fawzi Oussedik, Head of International Relations and International Humanitarian Law, and Naglaa Al Hajj, Head of International Development.
They discussed chances of humanitarian cooperation between QRCS and Sri Lanka Red Cross Society, whether in serving the Lankan community in Qatar or providing aid for the underserved communities in Sri Lanka.
Mohideen said his country was experiencing a dramatic increase in COVID-19 infections and deaths amid the third wave. As a result, hospitals are over-crowded and do not have the capacity for more critical cases.
Al Hammadi promised to extend help to the people of Sri Lanka, through coordination with Sri Lanka Red Cross Society, as a strategic partner of QRCS. Special focus will be given to immediately addressing the gaps in medical equipment, medications, and other supplies.
This, he asserted, reflects the good relations between the two countries and QRCS’s past achievements in Sri Lanka. Its representation mission there executed numerous humanitarian operations, particularly in the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sector, with hundreds of wells dug and water tanks and pumps installed.
