Qatar receives Presidency of GPDNet

Doha: In a new achievement that adds to the many successes in the field of diplomacy of the country, Qatar officially received the Presidency of the Global Public Diplomacy Network (GPDNet) at a special ceremony yesterday in Istanbul.

This makes Qatar the first Arab country to head the GPDNet since its establishing in 2014. President of the GPDNet General Assembly Professor Seref Ates and official delegations of the member countries attended the ceremony which took place in Asma Sultan hotel in Istanbul, Turkey.

Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, the General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation – Katara headed the delegation of the State of Qatar to the ceremony and delivered a speech during the event in which he described Qatar’s pride and honour to receive the presidency of the GPDNet. The event coincides with the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Yunus Emre Institute.

“Qatar’s receipt of the presidency of the GPDNet is another success of the continuing successes achieved by the State in its international relations and in various fields” Sulaiti said.

Dr. Sulaiti named Darwish S. Ahmed Al Shebani, Director of Cultural Affairs in Katara to be the General-Secretary of the GPDNet, wishing him success in his new mission.

On the other hand, Dr Sulaiti assured that Katara will provide all the necessary capacities and strategies to add tangible contributions to the Network and achieve new goals. “We will focus on enhancing dialogue between the member countries and develop new horizons of cooperation which will have a positive impact on the nations,” Darwish said. The event coincides with the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Yunus Emre Institute which now has 157 cultural institutions around the world.
