MME and MoTC sign MoU to develop Qatar’s air surveys

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), represented by the Center for Geographic Information Systems(CGIS), and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MoTC), represented by the Qatar Aeronautical Academy, have signed a memorandum of understanding for the operation, maintenance and storage of the aerial survey system aircraft for the work of the country’s air surveys.

The agreement was signed by Director General of Qatar Aeronautical Academy H E Sheikh Jabor bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Thani, and Director of the Center for Geographic Information Systems Engineer Manaf Ahmed Al Sada. Sheikh Jabor bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Thani affirmed that in order to achieve the public good and fruitful cooperation between the CGIS and the Qatar Aeronautical Academy, the Academy will employ all its expertise in the field of operating, maintaining and storing these aircraft and work to establish joint and effective cooperation between the two parties in the framework of implementing the work of aerial survey and update of digital maps of the State of Qatar.

For his part, the Director of the Center for Geographic Information Systems Engineer Manaf Ahmed Al Sada stated that the CGIS began working on owning and operating the aviation system specialized in the work of air surveys for the State of Qatar, which has now reached its final stages, in its capacity as the national authority responsible for all the work of updating the digital maps of the State of Qatar and responsible for managing the state’s aerial survey system, in addition to many other tasks.

He said that according to this memorandum, the center will purchase the aircraft according to the work systems followed in the country, and select and purchase all the equipment that will be installed in it related to aerial survey work, including cameras, remote sensors, and computers for air surveys, in addition to providing specialized operators for the aforementioned devices, the Academy will be responsible for overseeing the stages and procedures for the delivery of the aircraft, providing the pilot, and the periodic operation and maintenance work.
