Doha, Qatar: As part of its participation in Project Qatar 2026, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) organised a specialized session titled “Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS): Advancing Qatar’s National Digital Twin.”

The session highlighted the latest digital transformation applications in the infrastructure sector and demonstrated how the integration of these technologies supports the development of Qatar’s National Digital Twin while enhancing planning, project delivery, and asset management in line with the country’s sustainable development objectives.

Eng Amna Al Baker from the Engineering Services Department delivered a presentation on the role of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in improving the planning, design, delivery, and management of infrastructure projects. She explained how BIM enhances coordination across all project stages, improves data quality, and supports informed decision-making, ultimately increasing efficiency and sustainability.

Engineer Nayef Al Ansari, also from the Engineering Services Department, presented the role of GIS in integrating, managing, and analyzing spatial data to support urban planning, asset management, and smart infrastructure. He explained how combining GIS data with BIM models creates an integrated digital ecosystem that advances Qatar’s National Digital Twin, providing accurate, real-time information to enhance operations, maintenance, and future planning.
