Doha, Qatar: The US Embassy Doha hosted a FIFA World Cup Opening Day Reception at the 3-2-1 Olympic and Sports Museum on June 11, bringing together Qatari government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, journalists, civil society leaders, and exchange alumni to mark the opening of the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup — the largest sporting event in human history.
The reception, part of the Embassy’s Freedom 250 programming, underscored the United States’ commitment to sports diplomacy as a strategic tool for cultural exchange, youth empowerment, and economic partnership. The event also celebrated the historic co-hosting partnership between the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and honored Qatar’s role as a partner in international sports.
