African Capitals: Sudanese clubs Al Hilal and Al Merreikh advanced to the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League after beating Burundi's Aigle Noir and Zambia's Power Dynamos, respectively, in the second legs of the first preliminary round on Saturday.

Al Hilal defeated visiting Aigle Noir, 1-0, with Ahmed Salem scoring the only goal. The result confirmed Al Hilal's progression after its 2-0 victory in the first leg, giving the Sudanese club a 3-0 aggregate win.

Al Hilal will seek to extend its run in the continental competition, a title it has never won despite reaching the final twice, in 1987 and 1992.

Al Merreikh, meanwhile, secured its place in the same round by defeating Zambia's Power Dynamos, 1-0, repeating the score from the first leg.

Madagascar international Fenohasina Gilles Razafimaro scored the only goal, sending Al Merreikh through 2-0 on aggregate.

Al Merreikh will look to continue its campaign and reach the group stage. Its best performance in the CAF Champions League came in 2015, when it reached the semifinals. Its most notable continental achievement remains its 1989 African Cup Winners' Cup title.
