Berlin: German police said a "suspicious object" found on railway tracks in Bavaria Thursday did not contain explosives, following examination by a bomb squad.
"The investigations have revealed that it is not an explosive," Middle Franconia region police said in a WhatsApp message.
But police believe "the object was deliberately placed there to cause a disruption", they added about the incident in the town of Treuchtlingen.
"The criminal police are on site and are securing evidence. Rail traffic therefore remains suspended."
Specialised police units were called out after the object was discovered in the morning and used a robot to move the item for closer examination with an X-ray device.
Treuchtlingen, with about 13,000 residents, lies roughly 150 kilometres (95 miles) north of Munich.
The train station there is a railway junction important for regional train traffic and long-distance trains, with lines connecting to Munich, Nuremberg and other Bavarian cities.
