Doha: The General Administration of Endowments at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in cooperation with the Ministry’s Mosques Department has continued the first series of awareness seminars for imams and preachers through videoconferencing as part of efforts to strengthen awareness of waqf and highlight its religious and societal significance.
The fifth seminar in the “Waqf Ambassadors” series, titled, “The Preacher as a Waqf Ambassador: From Influential Words to Creating Sustainable Impact,” focused on the important position of imams and preachers in society and their ability to reach broad segments of the public on a regular basis.
The seminar underlined the role of the mosque pulpit as an important platform for introducing the public to waqf, its diverse channels and its lasting benefits, while encouraging people to contribute through official and trusted avenues.
Waqf was presented as a form of ongoing charity based on preserving the original asset while ensuring that its benefits continue. This enables charitable giving to move beyond addressing immediate needs to creating sustainable resources that continue serving society over generations.
Director of the Waqf Funds Department at the General Administration of Endowments Jassem Hassan Bu Hazza, said the seminars stem from the prominent role of imams and preachers in society and the trust and close relationship they enjoy with the public. He said these qualities position them as ambassadors of waqf who can introduce the community to this blessed tradition and highlight its far-reaching impact on people’s lives.
Bu Hazza stressed that the message of waqf becomes more meaningful when linked to the actual needs and circumstances of society. He cited examples of waqf contributions to treating patients, educating students, supporting families, serving the holy Quran and building mosques, noting that such examples bring the concept closer to the public and demonstrate its role in strengthening solidarity, compassion and the sustainability of charitable work.
He also highlighted the importance of cooperation with the Mosques Department in expanding awareness of waqf and ensuring that its message reaches a wider section of society. Imams and preachers, he said, serve as an important bridge between religious knowledge and community realities, while a meaningful word can introduce new individuals to the various avenues of waqf and encourage them to participate in charitable initiatives through official channels.
The seminar also discussed the importance of presenting waqf concepts in clear and accessible language, highlighting their humanitarian and social dimensions. It explored practical methods for promoting waqf awareness through Friday sermons, religious lessons and brief talks after prayers, while directing the public to official sources and reliable waqf projects.
