Doha: The Urology Section at Al Wakra Hospital (AWH), part of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), has achieved re-accreditation as a Center of Excellence for Kidney Stone Management (COEKSM) from the USA-based Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), valid from June 2026 to 2029.
Additionally, eight urologists from AWH have been accredited as Surgeons of Excellence.
The Urology Section was first accredited by the SRC in 2019 in recognition of its dedicated and excellent clinical care for kidney stone management. The section offers standardised modalities for the management of urinary stones, alongside a dedicated Stone Clinic that collaborates with the Dietetic and Nephrology departments when required.
Dr. Omar Mohd Al Qahtani, CEO and Medical Director of AWH, also praised the achievement: “This re-accreditation is a testament to the exceptional standard of care our Urology team consistently delivers to patients across Qatar. Achieving this recognition again reflects not only our clinical excellence but also our commitment to continuous improvement. I am incredibly proud of our team’s dedication and the trust our patients place in us.”
Dr. Khalid Al Rumaihi, Head of Urology at HMC, commented on the accomplishment: “This achievement reinforces HMC’s position as a leader in specialized urological care in the region. The re-accreditation, along with the recognition of eight of our urologists as Surgeons of Excellence, demonstrates the expertise and commitment to quality that defines our Urology teams across HMC.” SRC is a non-profit organisation from the US, known globally for their accreditation of Centers of Excellence in different branches of surgery.
