Doha: The Centre for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly (Ehsan), affiliated with the Qatar Foundation for Social Work, recently organised a summer programme for senior women titled “Our Summer is a Blessing” (Sayfna Baraka), aimed at enhancing their community participation, improving quality of life and reinforcing their active role in society.
The programme offered an integrated summer experience that combined knowledge, recreation, exploration and social interaction. It placed participants at the heart of the activities, giving them opportunities to try new experiences, discover different places and fields, and engage with their surroundings in an atmosphere that balanced benefit and enjoyment.
Activities included a tourism and exploration day, a heritage and national identity day, and an aviation and smart travel day, alongside a variety of workshops and recreational and skills-based sessions. Participants attended lectures on healthy nutrition delivered by specialists from Hamad Medical Corporation, took part in practical workshops such as preparing summer beverages in cooperation with Cup of Joe, and enjoyed social gatherings and field visits.
Collaborations with several national and private entities enriched the programme. Partners included the Qatar National Archives, Hamad International Airport, Mada Assistive Technology Centre, the Ministry of Interior, Doha Bus and others. These partnerships enabled participants to explore cultural sites, learn digital skills for government and healthcare services, and experience modern aspects of Qatar’s development.
Ehsan designed the programme to diversify experiences according to the interests of senior women, create wider spaces for interaction, communication and exchange of experiences, break daily routines and create new memories.
The initiative reflects the centre’s ongoing commitment to launching qualitative programmes that support the social, cultural and health needs of older persons.
Through such activities, Ehsan continues its mission to empower senior citizens, promote intergenerational communication and ensure they remain valued and active contributors to Qatari society.
The “Our Summer is a Blessing” programme underscores the centre’s focus on inclusive, engaging and purposeful experiences tailored to the elderly community.
