Doha, Qatar: The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) Doha held a Flag-Raising Ceremony to commemorate the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia yesterday at the multipurpose Hall (MPH) of the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST).

The ceremony was conducted solemnly and smoothly, with the participation of more than 200 members of the Indonesian community residing in Qatar.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the State of Qatar, H E Syahda Guruh Langkah Samudera, served as the Inspector of the Ceremony, while the Ceremony Commander was Col. Tengku Sony, Defense Attaché of the Republic of Indonesia in Doha. The flag was raised by 14 Indonesian youths and students residing in Qatar.

The commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence at KBRI Doha continued with a simple thanksgiving gathering at the Embassy, marked by the ceremonial cutting of tumpeng, a traditional Indonesian rice dish and an important tradition in the celebration of Indonesia’s Independence Day. The event was also attended by several Ambassadors and colleagues from Asean Embassies, and Friends of Indonesia in Doha.

On a separate occasion, the Ambassador stated that the 81st Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence is not only an opportunity to honour the sacrifices and struggles of the nation’s heroes and express gratitude for independence, but also an opportunity to strengthen unity and concern for fellow Indonesians in order to build an Indonesia that is sovereign, just, and prosperous.

The Ambassador called upon all members of the Indonesian community in Qatar to join in prayers and express solidarity with Indonesians in several parts of the country, including East Nusa Tenggara, Central Sulawesi, and North Sumatra, which have been affected by earthquakes in recent days.

“The commemoration of independence should serve as a moment to strengthen our unity, compassion, and solidarity as fellow Indonesians. Let us pray together for our brothers and sisters who are facing these disasters and provide the best support that we can,” said Ambassador Syahda Guruh Langkah Samudera in his statement.
