Getit Group, a 100 percent Qatari multivendor online market platform, yesterday announced the opening of its first Retail Outlet and Fulfillment Center, (GETIT MART), in Qatar. The outlet, set up at GWC Busulba Warehousing Park, Birkat Al Awamer, Wukair, will be formally inaugurated on June 24, 2019.
Addressing the media, Khalid Mubarak Al Kaabi, Managing Director, Getit Group said: “Following the launch our e-commerce webstore (getit.qa), with both iOs & Android Mobile Apps, this endeavour marks the webstore’s continuous growth as the best online shopping portal in the country.”
He said the webstore will offer every type of groceries, foodstuffs ranging from vegetables, fruits, fresh meat and fish, dairy products, mobile & electronic goods, fashion apparels, home appliances, stationery, industrial products and services and more.
The size of Qatar’s e-commerce market is currently estimated at over QR2bn. The Getit Group is targeting 40 percent market share in long term.
Al Kaabi said a study conducted by Getit Group recently found that online shopping will help families to cut their monthly budget by 20 to 25 percent, compared to physical shopping. The online shopping trend is fast catching up in Qatar, he added.
“The website, www.getit.qa, is a pioneer in focusing entirely on optimising the shopper experience. In keeping with our responsibility principles, we implemented this secure webstore in such a manner that it is completely MoTC (Ministry of Transport and Communication) compliant. In addition, Getit is a locally registered company specially to promote “Made in Qatar’ products and services.” The Group is planning to open 10 additional outlets with fulfillment centres with 2022 to reduce the current delivery lead-time. “Our MART will be highly beneficial to our neighbouring customers in the GWC Busulba Warehousing Park for their daily shopping needs.
The venture will further support the future development of the Birkat Al Awamer area”, the Getit Group Managing Director said.
“It is great to see that our vision has become a reality and the mart is now opining as a combination of both traditional retail business and e-commerce. Over the years, getit.qa’s platform has enabled customers to optimize their shopping experience. This MART is one of the greatest milestones in the e-commerce sector in Qatar itself, as it not only caters to the residents nearby with products from all category at exclusive prices, but also serves as the fulfillment center for our vendors”, Paulose Theppala, Director of Getit Group said.
Speaking to The Peninsula, Jipson Jacob, Chief Operating Officer of Getit Group said the size of e-commerce market in Qatar is at an estimated QR2bn. The Getit Group is targeting a 40 percent market share in long-term, he said.
Jacob said the Goup is in consultation with MoTC for further expansions. The Ministry is in discussions with local online marketing companies to boost their businesses.
