Doha, Qatar: Samsung began rolling out its latest One UI 9 software update to Galaxy smartphones on September 26, bringing new artificial intelligence features that can automatically track people in videos, flag potential privacy risks and provide more personalised information to users.
The stable rollout began with the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra, following the software's debut on Samsung's latest foldable devices, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8 and Z Flip8.
The update will gradually reach more eligible Galaxy devices, although availability and timing may vary by market.
Among the most eye-catching additions is My FanCam, an AI-powered video feature that allows users to select a person in an already-recorded video and automatically keeps that person centred as the scene moves.
For example, a user recording a sporting event, school performance or gathering can select one person afterwards and have the software intelligently reframe the footage around them, reducing the need for manual video editing.
One UI 9 also introduces Generative and Editable Cards for Now Brief, allowing users to customise their daily summaries with information covering areas such as health, weather and video.
Another feature, Now Nudge, provides contextual suggestions based on what the user is doing.
Samsung says that when people are making plans through messages, for instance, the feature can help retrieve reservation details or save a shared location without requiring them to leave the conversation.
Samsung has also expanded AI features into security and privacy.
A new Security Brief can display warnings about malware, applications installed from unknown sources and unnecessary permissions, while Privacy Alerts use on-device AI to identify possible privacy risks, including apps unnecessarily attempting to access permissions in the background.
The Privacy Alerts feature is supported on a range of recent devices, including the Galaxy S26, S25, S24 and S23 families, selected FE models, several generations of Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip devices and recent Galaxy Tab S models. However, not every Galaxy phone receiving One UI 9 will necessarily support every AI feature.
Other changes include an upgraded Interpreter with a new Thread View for following previous parts of translated conversations, improved Document Scan for curved book pages and folded documents, and clearer summaries in Voice Recorder.
Samsung has also placed device support directly inside Settings through a new Warranty and Care section, where supported users can check warranty information, run diagnostics, view repair estimates and access service options. Availability varies by country and region.
One UI 9 is based on Android 17, with Samsung expected to expand availability to additional eligible Galaxy smartphones and tablets progressively through 2026.
