Qatar Chamber’s (QC) Restaurants Committee (emerging from Food Security Committee) held a meeting yesterday with stakeholders and discussed several issues and challenges facing the food sector SMEs, including the operational cost, prices, and productivity.

The meeting was presided over by QC Board Member and Chairman of the Committee Mohamed bin Ahmed Al Obaidli at the QC headquarters.

The meeting reviewed many issues related to catering and restaurants sector as well as current stance of restaurants and food companies and views of restaurant owners on obstacles they face.

The meeting also discussed the draft resolution of the Ministry of Public Health regarding providing training programme for those who deal with food and its impact on catering companies and restaurants.

It also discussed a proposal to study prices of restaurants and catering companies through a specialised company and discuss its outputs with the Consumer Protection Department.

The meeting also reviewed inviting catering companies and owners of restaurants to join the committee and the possibility of forging alliances to promote restaurants, take advantage of collective capabilities, reduce costs and increase productivity.

It also discussed the role of social responsibility of catering companies and restaurants.

Al Obaidli said that the committee will discuss these issues during coming meeting, stressing the importance of providing support and assistance to startups in this sector and helping them overcome challenges that they face.

He called for the need to establish alliances between companies operating in the restaurant sector to benefit their development and reduce the cost of operation, stressing the importance of strengthening the corporate social responsibility in the restaurant and food sector.
