Qatar win gold at Asian Junior Bowling Championships

Doha, Qatar: Qatar’s Talal Al-Marri and Abdulrahman Al-Dosari won the doubles gold medal at the 25th Asian Junior Bowling Championships in Jakarta yesterday.

The Qatari pair topped the standings with 2,613 points, finishing ahead of Macau’s Fong Shan Hong and Chiu Lucio Marcelino, who scored 2,585 for silver. Kuwait’s Hassan Qassem and Fahad Al-Saqbi took bronze with 2,563 points.

Qatar also claimed a bronze medal in the singles event through Ahmed Adel Al-Darwish, who scored 1,359 points over six rounds.

The Qatari juniors are competing in the singles, doubles and team events. The squad comprises Talal Al-Marri, Musaed Al-Marri, Abdulrahman Al-Dosari, Hassan Al-Marri, Abdullah Al-Dosari, Ahmed Adel Al-Darwish, Hamad Ahmed Al-Abdullah and Mohammed Issa Al-Abd Al-Jabbar. Pedro Mirani is the head coach, assisted by Khalifa Ali Al-Kubaisi.

The championships, which run until August 30, continue with the four-player team event today and tomorrow.

The top 16 male and female players across all events will advance to the Masters finals. The first stage will feature eight rounds on August 28, followed by the placement stage on August 29. The top three players in each category will qualify for the finals under the progressive Step Ladder format.
