Doha, Qatar: Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs H E Ghanem bin Shaheen bin Ghanem Al Ghanim received Qatari Quran contestant Yusuf Ahmed Yusuf Hassan Asheer in recognition of his achievement in securing third place at the King Mohammed VI International Competition for the Memorisation, Recitation, Tajweed and Interpretation of the Holy Quran in Morocco.
Asheer’s achievement highlights Qatar’s continued efforts to nurture and prepare Quran memorisers and reciters for participation in major regional and international competitions, while reflecting the success of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs’ programmes in developing national Quranic talents.
The reception was attended by Director of the Department of Da’wah and Religious Guidance Jassim Abdullah Al Ali and Head of the Quran and its Sciences Section Fahad Ahmed Al Mohammed.
During the meeting, the participants reviewed Asheer’s experience in the international competition and his performance among leading contestants from various countries, underscoring the importance of continuing to support promising Quranic talents and providing them with opportunities to compete at international events. Asheer secured third place in the 20th edition of the King Mohammed VI International Competition for Quran Memorisation, Recitation, Tajweed and Interpretation for 2026, held in Rabat from August 10 to 14.
The competition brought together a distinguished group of Quran memorisers and reciters from around the world and is regarded as one of the leading international Quranic competitions, attracting participants specialising in memorisation, recitation and interpretation. Representing Qatar in the category for memorising the entire Holy Quran with recitation and interpretation, Asheer achieved third place following strong competition among some of the world’s leading Quranic talents.
The achievement adds to a growing record of successes by Qatari participants in regional and international Quranic competitions.
