Doha, Qatar: Qatar’s national team is set to compete at the World Team Table Tennis Championships London 2026, which get underway today in London and run through May 10.
The global event brings together 64 men’s and 64 women’s teams, divided into 16 groups of four, promising a high level of competition across the board.
Qatar’s squad features Mohammed Abdulwahab, Fahad Al-Mughni, Abdullah Abdulwahab, Sultan Al-Kuwari, and Rawad Al-Nasser, under the guidance of coach Vitaly. The delegation departed for London yesterday ahead of the tournament’s opening.
Drawn in Group H, Qatar will face tough opposition in Croatia, Serbia, and Luxembourg. The team opens its campaign against Serbia today, before taking on Luxembourg tomorrow and Croatia on Thursday.
Qatar secured qualification for the World Championships following a strong showing at last year’s Asian Championships.
Hamad Ahmed Al-Hammadi, President of the Qatar Table Tennis Federation, said the team has prepared thoroughly through a domestic training camp and participation in local competitions.
He acknowledged the challenge posed by Group H, describing it as highly competitive with higher-ranked teams, but expressed confidence in the players’ ability to rise to the occasion and represent Qatar with pride.
Al-Hammadi added that the World Championships will serve as valuable preparation ahead of the 4th Gulf Games, which Doha is set to host next month.
