Phnom Penh: Cambodia's famous Angkor Archaeological Park saw a 29-percent year-on-year drop in international visitors during the first eight months of 2026, according to an official statement released Tuesday.
A total of 474,993 foreign tourists visited the UNESCO World Heritage Site from January to August, said the press release from the state-owned Angkor Enterprise.
It generated 22.54 million U.S. dollars in ticket revenue, marking a 27.4-percent decline compared to the same period last year, the statement said.
The downward trend persisted through August, with foreign arrivals falling 8 percent year-on-year to 46,770, while monthly ticket revenue dropped 8.4 percent to 2.22 million dollars, the statement added.
Cambodian Minister of Tourism has recently attributed this significant drop to compounding challenges, including technology-enabled scam networks, border friction with Thailand, and Middle Eastern geopolitical conflicts that have driven up fuel prices and dampened international travel demand.
Located in northwest Siem Reap province, the 401-square-kilometer park serves as the centerpiece of Cambodia's tourism economy. It houses 91 ancient temples built between the 9th and 13th centuries.
