DOHA: The second day of the final in-person competitions of the inaugural Rofaqa Global Orphans Branch of the Founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani Quran Competition continued at the Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque in Doha, with 20 participants competing in the categories for memorising the entire Holy Quran and 20 parts.
The competitions brought together young Quran memorisers who qualified from preliminary rounds involving more than 300 participants representing 20 countries. The inaugural global branch has 30 finalists from eight countries competing for the top three positions in three categories: memorisation of the entire Holy Quran, 20 parts and 10 parts.
The second day featured morning and evening tests for participants representing Somalia, Mali, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Syria, Burkina Faso and Nepal. Several contestants demonstrated strong levels of memorisation, mastery of Tajweed rules and quality of recitation, reflecting the preparation and qualifying stages they underwent before reaching the finals.
All contestants are being assessed by a single judging panel headed by Sheikh Mohammed Ali Al Hammadi, with Sheikh Abdullah Hamad Abu Shuraida as a member and Sheikh Subaih Mohammed Al Marri representing the competition’s organising committee. The unified judging panel is intended to ensure consistent assessment standards, fairness and equal opportunities for all participants.
The tests are also being held publicly at the Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque, allowing attendees to follow the performances and listen directly to the contestants’ recitations in an atmosphere reflecting the significance of the Holy Quran and the spirit of healthy competition.
The competition’s digital platforms are providing live coverage of the final tests, with the examinations broadcast through the Islamweb YouTube channel. The livestream enables audiences in Qatar and abroad to follow the competition and the participants’ performances in real time.
The digital coverage also seeks to broaden the reach of the competition’s Quranic message and highlight the talents of participating orphans internationally. The participants competed in the full Quran and 20-part memorisation categories on the second day, while some tests in the 10-part category were also completed.
The finalists reached this stage after passing a series of qualifying rounds and preparatory assessments conducted through cooperation between the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and Qatar Charity.
The 20 participants tested during the day included 15 contestants in the full Quran memorisation category, three in the 20-part category and two in the 10-part category.
The Rofaqa Global Orphans Branch is the first global branch of the competition dedicated specifically to male orphans sponsored by Qatar Charity. It targets participants aged between 12 and 20 and aims to encourage them to memorise and develop a strong connection with the Holy Quran, while identifying and nurturing promising Quranic talents.
