Doha, Qatar: The General Directorate of Endowments (Awqaf) at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has announced the receipt of a QR100,000 cash endowment from a donor under its supervision to support the “Waqf Al-Wuqouf” initiative within the Endowment Fund for Righteousness and Piety.

The contribution is aimed at strengthening the sustainability of endowment resources and expanding their impact across various charitable and community development sectors.

According to the Directorate, the donation represents a renewed contribution from a benefactor who has previously established endowments, reflecting growing public awareness of the importance of waqf as a long-term tool for sustainable development and social solidarity.

Head of the Studies Section at the General Directorate of Endowments Mohammed Saleh Al Badr, said the continued support from donors demonstrates increasing recognition of waqf as one of the most effective mechanisms for achieving sustainable development, generating lasting benefits for society and future generations.

He explained that the Studies Section prepares research and feasibility studies for endowment projects based on community needs while ensuring compliance with donors’ conditions and the applicable Sharia and legal frameworks.

The section also evaluates proposed projects and requests, assesses their alignment with the objectives of the various endowment funds and donors’ intentions, and provides recommendations to ensure that endowment resources are directed to areas that best serve public needs and the objectives of waqf.

Al Badr added that these studies play a vital role in supporting informed decision-making, improving the efficiency of resource allocation, determining appropriate contribution values and spending periods, and ensuring the proper implementation of donors’ wishes while preserving the intended purposes of their endowments.

He noted that repeat contributions from donors reflect growing confidence in Qatar’s endowment system and a commitment to directing wealth toward sustainable projects that continue delivering public benefit across generations.

The Directorate emphasized that waqf remains one of the most significant forms of ongoing charity, preserving the original asset while ensuring continuous returns that support humanitarian and community initiatives and strengthen the role of the endowment sector in promoting sustainable development and social cohesion.

The “Waqf Al-Wuqouf” initiative is based on the concept of reinvesting endowment returns to establish new endowments on a continuous basis.

This approach expands the country’s endowment asset base year after year, creating a self-sustaining model in which one endowment generates others, ensuring that charitable benefits and rewards continue for as long as the endowments remain productive.

The General Directorate of Endowments also encouraged members of the public wishing to establish endowments to contribute through its online endowment platform, mobile donation service, quick collection numbers, and dedicated hotline, enabling them to support a range of endowment funds as an ongoing charitable legacy.
