Doha, Qatar: Citizens and residents have been urged to carry their Qatar ID (QID) when visiting public places and remain alert to individuals impersonating police officers, the Ministry of Interior (MOI) has said.
Speaking on Wednesday during a webinar on the role of Al Fazaa Police and the Central Operations Department, Lieutenant Abdulrahman Abdullah Al Marri stressed that carrying a valid QID or a digital copy can help authorities quickly identify individuals, particularly in the event of accidents or emergencies.
He said that if a person does not have an ID card, fingerprints may be used for identification. If their identity cannot be established, they may be referred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The MOI official also advised residents approached by someone claiming to be a police officer in civilian clothes to verify the person's identity by asking to see their police ID before providing any information or responding to questions. If they suspect the person is impersonating a police officer or the individual is unable to produce a police ID, they should call 999.
A genuine police ID resembles a QID and carries the officer’s name, photograph and department, with Ministry of Interior details on the back.
Al Fazaa Police serves as a first responder, providing security and humanitarian assistance around the clock before other specialised departments are notified.
Its patrols operate across the country and on highways, working to maintain security, prevent and detect crimes, reduce traffic violations and provide roadside assistance, while also supporting other security departments.
Members of the public can report emergencies or request police assistance by calling 999 or, when safe to do so, approaching an Al Fazaa patrol.
